World Book Day
Reception had a fabulous day celebrating World Book Day on Friday 3rd March! We did lots of activities throughout the day to celebrate our love of books and reading. We read some of our favourite stories, including The Gruffalo, Elmer and We're Going on a Bear Hunt.
We went on our own bear hunt through the wild area and re-told the story, wading through 'rivers' and trampling through the 'long wavy grass'. Luckily we didn't spot any real bears on our bear hunt!
We designed and created our own Gruffalo's using plasticine and other materials including wooden lollipop sticks and pipe cleaners. The children were excellent at remembering all the descriptions of the Gruffalo and we then decorated our own Gruffalo based on the descriptions in the story.
After reading the story of Elmer, we counted how many colours were on Elmer's patchwork and made our own table to show this. The children then helped to create a bar chart of our results.
The children also painted their own pictures of their favourite story characters, including Spot the Dog and the Very Hungry Caterpillar.
