Year 6

Welcome to Year 6! Our class teacher is Miss Vaughan and our teaching assistants are Mrs Wood and Mrs Smith.

The children have all settled in well to Year 6 and have taken on lots of extra responsibilities. Their jobs include: handing out registers; setting up the hall for assemblies; running Fruit Shop at playtimes and answering telephones at lunchtimes.

Now that we are in Year 6, you will notice that we wear a different coloured jumper - purple! This is because we are now the eldest children in school and so that we stand out. This means that all of the other children in school can spot us setting a good example.

At the beginning of every term, a letter is sent home to parents detailing what is being taught in each area of the curriculum. This is the letter for the spring term.

Important Imformation

  • Coaching will take place every other Monday afternoon with Miss Dyson. This half term, she will be covering a unit of dance.
  • P.E. takes place every Wednesday afternoon which will usually be indoors.
  • Computing happens on a Tuesday afternoon. It is important that the children bring their memory sticks ready for every lesson.
  • Reading books are usually changed on a Thursday although they can be swapped as soon as they have read it. We have now also started doing 'Recommended Reads' to encourage the children to recommend books that they have particularly enjoyed to their classmates.
  • Homework will be set on a Friday and will consist of an Abacus maths challenge; spellings from their Spelling Log Books and learning times tables. This term, I will also start sending practice SATs papers to prepare them for the tests in May. Please read the homework letter for further details.
  • CGP SATs revision guides are now available to buy from school. Please read the SATs revision materials letter for further information.

Our current topic is 'Stone Age to the Iron Age'. Later on this term, we will be having a WOW day to fully immerse the children in their learning - a letter will be sent home to provide further details about this.

If you have any questions or queries, please feel free to pop in and see me as my door is always open and I am always happy to help.
