Story-telling Week

Linthwaite Ardron decided to celebrate during national book week by having a special ''story telling week''. Class 1 had a wonderful fun packed week. We learnt how to tell stories as a whole class with nothing to help us except our wonderful imaginations. (My favourite one was the story of Jane, the princess kidnapped by evil fairies!) We also used lots of stories we already knew and used props to help us retell the stories, such as:-

  • a roleplay area set up as a supermarket for Mr Wolf to buy the ingredients for his pancakes, where the children had to write a shopping list, work with money, create a recipe etc. (Mr Wolfs Pancakes);
  • construction areas for the children to create a house of bricks that the wolf couldn't blow down (The Three Little Pigs);
  • build a bridge to cross the river using materials they think will be the most suitable (The Three Billy Goats Gruff);
  • small world area with the story book of Noahs Ark along with a beautiful wooden Ark with wooden animals for the children to re-enact the story with as well as learn to count in 2's;
  • a water tray where the children had to find the best container(of various shapes, sizes,materials, weights, solid and very holey) to make the Ark from;
  • story sacks linking to well known fairytales;
  • PE lessons linked to the story of Noahs ark;
  • a wonderful big puppet show where the children used puppets to create their own amazing stories.
