WELCOME TO MODERN FOREIGN LANGUAGES
At our school we believe that being able to communicate effectively with all people, regardless of nationality, is a key skill for success in later life. Our curriculum is based on learning phrases and simple communication within the the French language. It also gives pupils the opportunities to learn about the French culture.
NB:- In Autumn term 2021, whilst the full curriculum at this school was reintroduced following the Coronavirus pandemic, French lessons were reintroduced in Autumn 2. To ensure that the full French curriculum can be delivered in 2021 2022, a French week has been planned for July 2022. This will focus on French culture and will ensure that there can be an emphasis on French language between Autumn 2 and the end of the academic year.
Learning a language enriches the curriculum helping to create enthusiastic learners and to develop positive attitudes to language learning throughout life. The skills, knowledge and understanding gained contribute to the development of children’s oracy and literacy and to their understanding of their own culture and those of others.
At Linthwaite Ardron J & I School, we feel that the earlier a child is exposed to a foreign language, the quicker the language in question is acquired. We believe that the early acquisition of French will facilitate the learning of other foreign languages later in life. We aim to prepare children for the KS3 language curriculum to enable them to transfer confidently and successfully.
We teach French across Key Stage 2. The school uses 'i Languages' scheme of work to support the teaching and learning of French. This provides clear progression for the development of speaking and listening and vocabulary acquisition. There are resources to support the teaching and learning opportunities for pupils which include games, role play, action songs and rhymes, reading and writing materials and suggestions for websites. We build pupil confidence through praise for any contribution they make in the foreign language, however tentative
