 INTENT

At our school we believe that being able to communicate effectively with all people, regardless  of nationality, is a key skill for success in later life.

Our curriculum is based on learning phrases and simple communication within the the French language. It also gives pupils the opportunities to learn about the French culture. 

Learning another language supports children's understanding of diversity, inclusion, language and culture which supports our work on British Values that underpins all aspects of school life.

IMPLEMENTATION

 We teach French across Key Stage 2. The school uses 'i Languages' scheme of work to support the teaching and learning of French. This provides clear progression for the development of speaking and listening and vocabulary acquisition. There are resources to support the teaching and learning opportunities for pupils which include games, role play, action songs and rhymes, reading and writing materials and suggestions for websites.  We build pupil confidence through praise for any contribution they make in the foreign language, however tentative

IMPACT

• Pupils will be able to communicate in French in a variety of ways
• Pupils will become aware that language structure differs between languages 
• Pupils will have a rich understanding of the French culture
• Pupils leaving Y6 will transfer to KS3 effectively  will be prepared to continue and develop their language skills
