Class News and Activities
Meet the Year One Class of 2023!
Ian's Mobile Farm Visit
Year One Children had a wonderful time meeting all of the farm animals. We got to spend the afternoon finding out about the different animals and had fun brushing and petting the animals. Our favourite activity was playing catch with the sheepdog!
Fun Outdoors
In Year One we enjoy taking our learning outdoors. We spent time exploring the different textures on our sensory walk, feeling the different sensations of smooth stone and bouncy rubber beneath our feet.
We searched the woodland for things with different textures, from tickly feathers to rough scratchy tree bark. This is helping us to develop our descriptive vocabulary! What different textures can you describe at home?
We finished our session with a woodland rendition of Jack and the Beanstalk, we liked the different voices Miss Warren used for the characters and joined in with the familiar rhymes!
Colne Valley Mini Olympics
Year 1 had a fantastic morning at Colne Valley Mini Olympics, joining the many other schools that were taking part.
Everyone had fun in the sunshine and demonstrated excellent teamwork and sportsmanship. There was lots of racing and relay, and events from welly wanging to egg and spoon racing!
The children took it in their stride and placed second overall, with the boys coming in first and the girls fourth!
Well done Year 1!
Outdoor Planting
We have been learning all about plants this half term, we have looked at the life cycle of a broad bean and learnt about what plants need to thrive.
Year 1 have planted flowers to brighten up our outdoor area and have planted broad beans to see who can grow the tallest beanstalk!
We have also made our own land art in the style of Andy Goldsworthy using found materials.
Dinosaur Danger!
We have learnt a dance to a well known piece of music as part of our topic on dinosaurs. Can you spot any swooping pterodactyls, tall apatosaurus, swimming ichthyosaur or rapid raptor moves?
Eden's Wood
We had an amazing time on our class trip to Eden's Wood where we had an outdoor adventure day!
Children had fun in the woodland, making fairy houses, sampling s'mores, and being daring by swinging on the zip-line!
Starchaser Rocket
We had a fabulous day learning about all things rocket and space themed, when the Starchaser Rocket company came to visit school and children got to see up close what a real life rocket looked like!
We spent some time in class looking at examples of things found on rockets and used by astronauts and we ended the day with a rocket launch!
