Northern Gas Workshops - March 2026

Reception and Year 1 had a wonderful workshop this morning, led by Northern Gas. We looked at what 'global warming' was and how we could all make small changes at home to help our planet. We carried out a great experiment to explore what happens in the polar regions if our world continues to warm up.

History Topic - Toys in the Past - February 2026

This half term we have been learning about Toys in the Past. We have really enjoyed looking at toys and sorting them into old and new toys. We looked at Victorian toys and made a Thaumatrope. It is an optical illusion and we loved making them.

Active Reading - January 2026

We had a great time when Ms Bolton, from CVHS, came to read us a story. She read us a story about an alien who was lost. We learnt actions to do as she read the story. We worked together to build a rocket so Bud could get home. We loved the story and being active.

Street Feet - January 2026

Rachel came to teach us about Road Safety. We played a game using the colours of the traffic lights.  She taught us to stop, look, listen and think before we cross the road. We then split into 2 groups where one group were the cars and the other group were the pedestrians crossing on a zebra crossing. We learnt a new song to help us to remember how to cross the road.

Butterfly Artwork - Wednesday 22nd October 2025

We have created our own butterfly artwork based on our class story 'Augustus and his Smile'. We learnt how to paint more accurately using a paintbrush and then decorated our butterflies, trying to make them symmetrical. We then created our own frames, using a repeating pattern.

Handwashing Workshop - Wednesday 15th October 2025

Today has been global handwashing day! We had a fun workshop all about washing our hands! We learnt how to wash our hands properly through  some fun investigations and found out how we can stop germs from spreading.

Autumn Nature Smart Education day - Wednesday 1st October 2025

We had a great outdoor learning day! We searched for signs of Autumn around school, used our maths skills to make our own part-whole models using natural objects and created self-portraits using natural objects in the style of Andy Goldsworthy. What a super day we had!

Pilgrimage Walk - Thursday 25th September 2025

We took part in our fabulous annual pilgrimage walk on Thursday! We had a wonderful walk around our local area and heard the story of Noah's Ark as we walked, looking out for special animals on our route. We thanked God for the gift of water and said a special prayer. We had a wonderful afternoon!

'Active Maths' session - Tuesday 23rd September 2025

Year 1 had a fantastic 'Active Maths' session this week, led by Claire Bolton at CVHS! We practised counting, adding and subtracting, all whilst being physically active!
