Class News 2023-2024
Royal Armouries Trip
We had an exciting trip to the Royal Armouries, learning about military hardware and how it was used in many historical periods. The children took part in workshops learning about soldiery in the Second World War and how different equipment was used in different ways. We also watched a performance by a Viking Shield Maiden and explored the many galleries. We had a blast!
Starry Starry Night
Our Autumn 2 topic is 'Earth and Space' and it encompasses so much more than just learning about the science of the Solar System. We listened to a wide selection of songs and music based on the sky, stars and heavens above, including Holst, David Bowie and our favourite, Starry Starry Night' by Don McLean. This lead us to looking at Van Gogh's night-time paintings and his 'Starry Night' in particular. We are creating a large scale collaborative piece using sand, glue, tissue paper and acrylic paint as well as our own individual versions replicating Van Gogh's style and brush strokes. Watch this space for the finished pieces!
After looking at the art of Kandinsky and Klimt, Year Five created these super mixed-media artworks to go with their poems written in English on the theme of winter. First they divided their pages up into squares, using water colour paint to colour each square a different 'sky' colour. They added a black tree silhouette and then added cut out squares of metallic paper. White and silver posca pens were used to add swirls of snow to their artwork. Aren't they chilly but beautiful!
Year 5 and Year 2 Games Expo
We have been making maze games on purple mash this half term. Today we shared them with the children in Year 2 to see if they could understand our instructions and challenges. We got lots of thumbs up form the younger children at the end of the session.
Year 5 Outdoor Learning
Check out some pictures from our awesome Autumn Outdoor Learning Day. The children learnt about similes and metaphors, data collection and played team games in the grounds around school. We had a great time!
Ian's Farm Visit
Today we had an exciting visit from Ian's Farm. Ian brought all sorts of animals for us to look at and stroke - donkeys, alpacas, sheep, goats, tortoises, chickens, ducks, guinea pigs, rabbits and dogs! Everyone had a great time and learnt a lot of amazing animal facts.
